The Warner Bros. Studio turns 100 in April – and as one of the world’s most iconic media companies, it’s “Celebrating Every Story” all year long.
Why it matters: From blockbuster movie franchises like Harry Potter and the DC Universe to hit TV series like “Friends” and “Game of Thrones,” Warner Bros. is a household name that has had a significant impact on American culture. And its milestone celebration is shaping up to be just as epic.
A Legacy of Storytelling
Right from the start, Warner Bros. Studio made its mark as an industry pioneer.
In the 1920s, the studio revolutionized moviemaking by introducing synchronized sound into film – music, sound effects, and dialogue – in its production of “Don Juan” and “The Jazz Singer.”
From there, the studio has grown its library to be one of the most prestigious and valuable in the world – 145,000 hours of programming consisting of:
- 2,400 television programs, made up of more than 150,000 individual episodes.
- 12,500 feature films, including 18 best picture winners.
Celebrating a Century in the Making
Want to join in the celebration? Warner Bros. has put together a years-full of special programming and events to mark the occasion – some of our favorites include:
- A three-part documentary on the history of Warner Bros. premieres April 28 on HBO Max.
- Throughout April, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will air hundreds of films, documentaries, Looney Tunes cartoons, and interviews with stars and directors focusing on the cinematic achievements of the studio.
- Programming marathons and special episodes are launching across Warner Bros. Discovery’s 40+ domestic networks and international channels.
- A Candlelight Concert Series is coming to 100 cities – taking fans on a musical journey through 100 years of Warner Bros.
Embarking on the Next Century
Entertainment has come a long way since Warner Bros. first introduced sound into film – and there is no doubt that the media empire will continue to innovate to the benefit of audiences for years to come.
